Selfies...and Social Media crazies

So I went on one of these social media networks lately (I actually haven’t logged in in so long, I honestly can’t be bothered by this social media crazy frenzy stuffs), and what blasted my poor eyes were pictures after random pictures of selfies from different random people on my homepage.  Apparently there was some contest on the funniest or craziest selfie or something along those lines, and I thought, is this for real?

I mean, I still can’t get myself to understand what in the world a selfie is, - true, it’s a picture of yourself, taken by yourself, but, is that all?

      Is it really something new?
Is there a hidden meaning behind the word selfie that I’m still yet to catch up on?

What I'm saying is, it’s not something that was just invented in 2014; as far back as I’ve had a camera on my phone, I have always taken pictures of myself, by myself (in front of historical buildings, or incredible artifacts, or what nots that are almost always in the background) and never thought twice about it.

So I’m still at a loss as to why this selfie business has become such an incredibly huge fad in the social world in 2014, because I feel as though I’m missing something but not quite sure what it is.

Speaking of social media, I have in time given up on trying to catch up with today’s social media trend and trying to hop on to that fast-galloping wagon. Social media is actually exhausting, I have to say! Call me old-fashioned – and perhaps I am – but in my younger days we didn’t have to worry about things like why no one has commented on or liked my recent picture update – is it because my hair wasn’t looking too great? OMG I think it’s the shoes or perhaps I didn’t pose quite good enough, maybe I should let down my hair....

And so on and so on….we get crazed in our desperate need to seek other people’s opinions and approval, we aim to impress, to prove ourselves, to...to…

Sigh, my frustration is endless!

Now,  I'm happy to say I recently reconnected with an old friend the other day through one of these social sites…

You did whAT, you ask? Aha yes, I used my social site to reconnect with an old friend, so true, there actually is a benefit to this media fad thing!

Indeed there is, but it’s all about moderation. For me I do the basic, I have a page where I can connect with friends, and then I have this blog where I can vent my feelings once in a while. Pinterest? Instagram? Diggit? Flickr? No Siree, I think I’ll pass! I’m perfectly fine with what I got.
So this is what got me thinking that day…

Til next time…
